THE GREATEST LEADER
Jesus was the greatest leader of all time. He was the 5-fold anointings of Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor and Teacher and walked His assignment out perfectly on the earth. Sometimes He was moving in His apostolic role; He was the “sent one” and He sent others out to minister and do signs, miracles and wonders. He stood before kings and rulers as an Apostle carrying the government of God on His shoulders and establishing that government here on earth. Often, He was moving in His teacher role as He taught the parables, equipped the disciples and spoke to the crowds. But Jesus was always leading.
Leaders need to be able to adapt to the environment and situation they are in to perform their assignment and advance the Kingdom. Leading is about laying down your giftings and making room for others and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide and direct you in every situation. Leading is serving into others and a desired outcome. As Christians, that outcome should be stewarding the will of God on the earth until “the Kingdoms of this world are become the Kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ, and He will reign forever and ever.” Revelation 11:15.
The five-fold governmental order of God was established for His purposes to be fulfilled on the earth. The Christian community need all five roles operating together in unity to accomplish God’s purposes. The true Ecclesia. As leaders it is our responsibility to establish and move in this five-fold government as God intended and to establish, once again, the governmental order that the early church operated in. Jesus led and equipped others to lead so they could go out unto all the world, preach the good news and teach others to do the same. Those Jesus led all became leaders in their own right, within their designated assignments.
MY UNIQUE CALLING
I have been in leadership positions most of my life and it’s only been in the last several years that I have begun to understand what being a leader really means. As I have pressed into a more intimate relationship and walk with the Lord He has begun to show me the depth and breadth of His Kingdom and how He has called me to lead. It’s been an incredible journey that continues into the depths of who He is and who I am in Him.
As I was beginning to learn about five-fold ministry (scripture) and more about the apostolic and prophetic calls in addition to the evangelist, pastor and teacher, I began to understand who God had made me to be and what He had predestined me for. As I began to understand these leadership roles, it was no wonder I didn’t fit in the pastoral church model! I was a woman, a business owner, an apostle and, frankly, they didn’t know what to do with me. Fortunately, God placed some incredible people on my path to teach and equip me for my true calling as an apostle and put a demand on those apostolic and prophetic giftings I carried deep inside. Finally, everything made sense and everything I did flowed together out of a whole, realized identity. I am an apostle and everything I do is for building God’s Kingdom on the earth whether it’s through my business, my family or my areas of influence I am an ambassador of His Kingdom sent to govern, guard and build that Kingdom here on earth.
I believe that the pastoral model has stifled many of God’s children from stepping into the fullness of who they are called to be and leading in the areas they are called to lead in. All are called to disciple and minster within their calling and giftings, it’s not just the pastor’s job! All are called to do signs, miracles, wonders, greater things than Jesus and lead in their assignment on the earth. The true apostolic model provides a foundation and framework for leaders to lead in.
OUR CALL TO LEAD
Our leadership call is as unique as God made each one of us. What that leadership form looks like, who we lead and for how long is unique for each one of us. I believe as God’s children, walking out our assignments on the earth, we are all called to lead in some manner within our predestined calling. The good news is God knit us together in our mother’s womb with exactly what we need to do what He predestined us for since before the world was formed.
Do you understand the five-fold and how to work together in God’s governmental order as and with apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers all united moving in their giftings to save, equip, send out and make disciples of all the nations? As leaders we must understand the governmental order God has established for his Kingdom to come to earth. It won’t come just from the evangelist or the pastor or apostle. All must be working together for His Kingdom purposes and outcome.
Leadership is about being in your right place, at the right time for the desired outcome. If one leader is out of place then that displaces another leader that is supposed to be in that position, which throws someone else out of position and so on and so on. God is a God of order and when we as leaders step into our right position then others are able to step into theirs and line up with God’s assignment and purposes for their lives.
Let’s look at a few examples from the bible.
- Esther saved a nation in a single leadership moment when she went before the king. Her whole life was preparation for that single and most critical leadership moment.
- Noah led for years, building the ark and leading his family to their destiny to survive a global flood and repopulate the earth.
- Joseph went from slave to leader several times throughout his walk until he led an entire nation through a famine. Again, we see a lifetime of preparedness for his leadership role and assignment.
- Moses was a leader for an entire generation of people, they fell short of their destiny but Moses walked out his assignment as a leader.
- Jesus led for 3 ½ years and turned the world upside down!
So how and where are you called to lead? What is your assignment and area of influence? God has a plan and a purpose for you, just ask Him.
Jeremiah 29:11 – “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (NIV)
